The main objective of the South Pacific Co mmission Deep Sea Fisheries Development Project in Yap was to encourage bottom fish ing in the unexploited deep water along the outer reef slope.

This was to be accomplished by the introduction of gear and techniques used successfully in other Pacific Island countries. The South Pacific Commission gratefully acknowledges the friendly support and co-operation offered by the many individuals and organisations associated with the Deep Sea Fisheries Development Project's stay in Yap.
